Code of Ethics
Membership Code of Ethics
All practitioners are asked to abide by a Code of Ethics as part of their commitment to the highest professional standards. Practitioners undertake to:
-
Conduct themselves at all times in accordance with their professional status and in a way that neither undermines public confidence in their profession nor brings it into disrepute. Practitioners should remain aware of professional and personal boundaries.
-
Maintain strict confidentiality within the client-practitioner relationship, provided that confidentiality is not inconsistent with the safety of the practitioner, the client, the client’s family members or other members of the public.
-
Ensure that client notes and records are kept secure and confidential, and that the use of computer records conforms to applicable data-protection requirements.
-
Ensure that all advertising, in whatever form or medium, represents a truthful, honest and accurate picture of the practitioner, their experience, skill base, qualifications, services and facilities. Any claims about successful treatment or service outcomes must be based on verifiable, fully documented evidence.
-
Ensure that all advertising complies with the advertising standards that apply in the relevant country. No practitioner from any country may suggest or claim that they can or have cured cancer.
-
Display only valid qualifications and certificates issued in respect of relevant training courses and events, or certificates of registration, validation or accreditation issued or awarded by relevant professional bodies.
-
Remain aware of their own limitations and, wherever appropriate, be prepared to refer a client to another practitioner or medical adviser who may be expected to offer suitable support or treatment.
-
Where a client is seeking assistance for the relief of physical symptoms, ensure that—unless the client has already done so—they are advised to consult a registered medical practitioner. Practitioners should not attempt to diagnose physical symptoms unless they have undergone relevant medical training in diagnostics.
